The Bangkok Banger Belles won the Inaugural  All Ladies Rugby 10s Invitational Tournament yesterday at Cebu International School rugby pitch. The girls from Thailand beat hosts Cebu Lady Dragons in the championship match. It was a sorry loss for the hosts as they were the top seeded team after sweeping the elimination round.

In the championship match, Cebu dominated the possession early and they had several close calls only to be denied by a solid line of defense of the Banger Belles. Mistakes by the Lady Dragons allowed the visitors to score first.  The second half was no different as Cebu advanced to enemy territory but usually gets denied with timely tackles and the opportunist Bangkok defense scored another try after costly mistakes and breakdowns of defense of the host team.  The Lady Dragons was able to get a consolation score as the time winded down.  Cebu fought till the final whistle but the Banger Belles held on to win the title.

The other teams in the tournament were the Davao Durians, Manila Mayhem, and the HongKong Valley Meerkats. There was also Men’s exhibition matches between the local Cebu Dragons and Papua New Guinea’s Paradise Hunters.  A kiddie tournament was also conducted in the morning.  The organizers plan to do more invitational tournaments to promote the sport in the country and they plan to hold a bigger tournament that will have more teams from the different parts of the world.

Sports Event: Cebu International School Friendship Cup

25 Mar
The Cebu International School (CIS) hosted a football festival last weekend.  Many schools, clubs, and companies sent teams to compete in different divisions. The weather was great for football all week long.
I went to see the Sunday games because my wife’s pupils were playing. Sunday and football is indeed a perfect match. I was able to witness the games for the player 6, women’s open, girl’s 14, and BPO divisions. The matches were very competitive and I really had a great time watching the 6 year olds. I can see many future football stars from Cebu. Another nice thing about the mini-tournament is that weather was really good and the pitch was perfect for the beautiful game.
My wife’s students did not win a game but I can see in their faces that they had fun.  The Children’s Paradise Montessori School team has improved and hopefully someday they can be a force to reckon with in kid’s football. Here are some of pictures I took during the CIS Friendship Cup:
