After years of waiting, Cebuanos can finally enjoy Slurpee and other 7-Eleven favorites in a store nearby. Last July 31, 7-Eleven officially announced their entry to Cebu. They opened not one or two stores but 7 stores in a single month and the Philippine Seven Corporation (PSC) is planning to open 100 more in 3 years. The first 7-Eleven branches in Cebu are located at Escario Central, JY Square Mall, University of Cebu – Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue, Tune Hotels, Bigfoot Ramos, Caltex North Reclamation Area, and Caltex Mango Avenue.
The stores target the 35-under market by serving affordable self-serving snacks that will fit the budget of a student or a young professional. 7-Eleven is known for its Slurpee, a frozen flavored drink that will cause “brain-freeze”. It comes in flavors like apple, orange, Pepsi, and Mountain Dew. Aside from the famous drink, a 7-Eleven store serves soft serve ice cream, hotdogs, sandwiches, siopao, pasta, and rice meals. Just like a typical convenience stores, 7-Eleven branches also sell drinks, chips, chocolates, cigarettes, beer, toiletries, and other small items.
PSC also has a partnership with Chevron Philippines, Incorporated. With this partnership, around fifteen 7-eleven stores will be opened in Catlex gasoline stations all over Cebu by the end of 2012. As of the moment, Caltex Mango Avenue and North Reclamation have opened 7-Eleven stores at their stations. Cebu is being used a jump off point for PSC in its expansion in the Visayas as they also plan to open stores in Bacolod and Ilo-ilo in the near future.
With this aggressive expansion, you can expect a 7-Eleven store near you …puhon. 😉
