Fajardo and Santos leading the Game 5 block party

June Mar Fajardo and Arwind Santos dominated in both ends to propel San Miguel Beer to a 3-2 lead over the Alaska Aces in the 2015 PBA Philippine Cup Finals, 93-88.  The two former PBA MVPs combined for 38 points, 22 rebounds, and an astonishing10 blocked shots.

The game was one of the most tight and intense in this soon to be classic series as the teams ended up tied at the end of each of the middle quarters. Alaska took its last lead at 79-78 after Calvin “The Beast” Abueva completed a three point play. The Beermen responded with a run that gave them a 7 point lead at 86-79.  Cyrus Baguio , who had his best game this series, scored a triple to trim the lead to just 4 but Marcio Lassiter fired back with a trifecta in the next possession to give San Miguel some cushion. Alaska still had several chances as Abueva turned on his beast mode which included two baskets but also a silly offensive foul. Abueva’s effort though trimmed the lead to 3 at 89-86. Alaska fouled Santos who made two pressure packed free throws to make it a two-possession game. Alaska failed to make some 3-point shots in the end game and San Miguel went on to take a pivotal 3-2 lead in the best of seven series.

Aside from the 2 MVPs, San Miguel got a good game from Lassiter who got 16 points.  Big men Doug Kramer and rookie David Semerad were able to give Santos and Fajardo a breather by contributing 9 points a piece.  Alaska was once again lead by Calvin Abueva who had 24 points, 12 boards, and 3 assists. Baguio had 19 points and Vic Manuel finished with 13 in the losing effort.
