First Tropical Storm of the Year set to affect busy weekend

Bagyong Amang (International code: Mekkhala) is the first tropical storm of the year and it could affect an eventful weekend in the country.  Amang is set it to affect some parts of the country in the next 2-3 days and it coincides with the visit of Pope Francis and the Sinulog festival in Cebu.

Bagyong Amang is currently tracked at 950 km East of Guiuan, Eastern Samar.  It is currently forecasted to move at 19 kph WNW according the weather bulletin issued by PAGASA. A few forecasting agencies believe that Amang has a great chance to recurve and not make landfall in any part of the country.  The weather disturbance is expected to affect the Western Visayas and Bicol regions. Pope Francis is scheduled to visit Tacloban and the organisers are already preparing for contingencies.

Bagyong Amang may bring rains in Cebu most likely on Saturday according to Accuweather.com.  Clears skies are expected on Sunday save for the chance of showers in the morning.
