Former UC Webmasters big man June Mar Fajardo captured the Best Player of the Conference (BPC) Award of the 2015 PBA Philippine Cup. The reigning MVP beat out Alaska Aces’ Calvin Abueva, SMB teammates Arwind Santos and Alex Cabagnot, and Former UV/Ateneo Center Greg Slaughter of Ginebra. The award is the second straight Philippine Cup BPC for Fajardo.
Fajardo is currently averaging 18.3 points per game, 12.5 rebounds per game, and 2.0 blocks per game. He led the San Miguel Beermen to a Finals appearance against the Alaska Aces. The series is currently at 2-2 after San Miguel’s emphatic victory last night.

|June Mar Fajardo||1141|
Fajardo’s dominance in statistical points has given him a good cushion over his rivals for the award. Calvin Abueva placed second as his game improved leaps in his third season. Abueva has been SMB’s biggest thorn in the finals and many fans believe that he is the best player in the PBA right now. Former MVP Arwind Santos placed a distant third but he has been showing the Filipino basketball fans that he is still one of the best in the country especially in the Finals series. Sophomore Greg Slaughter will be a perennial contender of these awards in the coming years owing to his size and continuous improvement. Alex Cabagnot got the bulk of his points while playing for Globalport before he got traded back to SMB late in the conference. Cabagnot has a lackluster finals so far but he got a breakout game in last night’s Game 4 victory.

In 2013, No. 1 pick June Mar Fajardo was beaten by No.2 pick Calvin Abueva for the Rookie the Year award. Fajardo bounced back last year by winning the league MVP. In the Philippine Cup, the two were head and shoulders above the other PBA players. Fajardo leads the league in scoring while placing second to Abueva in rebounding even though they have an obvious height disparity. The Cebuano center was able to get an 82 point lead against the Aces’ main man in statistical points. Media votes was almost unanimous as Fajardo got 38 first place votes over Abueva’s 1. The player’s votes went to Fajardo as well but Abueva got 150 points from the PBA while Fajardo got only 75. In the end, the lead in media and stats were enough to propel June Mar Fajardo to receive the Best Player of the 2015 Philippine Cup award.
The award means that Fajardo is the pacesetter for the 2015 MVP award. Fajardo, Abueva, Santos, and Cabagnot are still in the running for the Finals MVP award. This championship is very important for Fajardo and San Miguel since the decorated franchise has not won a title since they drafted June Mar Fajardo in 2012. Abueva has already won a title in his rookie season.
