2014 WPA World 9-Ball Championship: Filipinos go 9-1 in Day 2; Reyes survives

22 Jun

Al Saad Sports Club, Doha, Qatar – Day 2 of the World 9 Championship belonged to the Filipinos as 9 Pinoy cue masters won with only one Filipino losing a match.  The lone Filipino loser was Lee Van Corteza who fell to Elmer Haya, 2-9 in an all-Filipino affair. Corteza moved to the loser’s bracket to face Mario Morra of Canada.

All 4 Filipinos who were on the loser’s bracket, managed to stave off elimination. Ramil Gallego beat local bet Mishel Turkey, 9-7. Legend Efren “Bata” Reyes prolonged his tournament after surviving a hill-hill battle against Estonian Denis Grabe, 9-8.  Francisco Felicilda beat Ecuador’s Christian Aguirre. Corteza was able to beat Morra in the elimination match, 9-6. 32 players exited the tournament and none of them were Filipinos.
