ERUF’s Herminio Cortes dies

The Emergency Rescue Unit Foundatio (ERUF) lost one of its pioneers as Dr. Herminio Cortes died due to cardio-respiratory arrest at the Chong Hua Hospital morning yesterday.  The 66 year old is ERUF’s operations and training director.  According to his cardiologist, Dr. Pek Eng Lim, Herminio Cortes was hospitalized for almost month after suffering a mild heart attack.

Cortes was the eldest son of the late former mayor of Mandaue City Demetrio Cortes and the brother of incumbent Mayor Jonas Cortes.  Mayor Demetrio Cortes founded the Mandaue Emergency Rescue Unit (Meru) in 1977 and the MERU members formed ERUF in 1986.  ERUF has served Cebu for over 26 years and it has received countless of awards and recognition for outstanding service.
