2013 Philippine Cup Finals Game 2: Talk ‘N Text now 2-up; Quiñahan top scorer for ROS

Three-peat seeking Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters won Game 2 of their best of the seven match-up with the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the 2013 Philippine Cup Finals.  The reigning 2-time All-Filipino champion Texters showed their championship poise as they showed the Painters how it is done it the final period.

Unlike Game 1 which was a basketball clinic by the Tropang Texters, Game 2 was marked with several ties and lead changes.  The game was even tied at 63-all going to the final 12 minutes of the game. The Elasto Painters last tasted the lead at 76-75 behind the efforts of sophomore guard Paul Lee. Led by Kelly Williams, TNT made a decisive 7-0 run to take an 82-76 lead with just over 3 minutes left in the game.  Lee tried to rally the underdogs but the wards of Coach Norman Black always found an answer. The Texters held on to win 89-81.

Ranidel de Ocampo exploded for the Tropang Texters with 24 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, and 3 triples.  Jason Castro and Kelly Williams combined for 33 points and 8 rebounds while playing for just 24 and 27 minutes respectively. Former University of the Visayas Green Lancer JR Quiñahan led RoS with 16 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist and a steal while hitting 3 out of 4 from the three-point distance. He, however, only played for 21 minutes as he was saddled with 5 fouls.  His extra rice partner Beau Belga was held to just 3 points.  Paul Lee had a great game with 15 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and hitting 7 for 7 in the charity stripe.

The Texters hit more 3 point shot in the game 9 vs. 6 and they had a better shooting night hitting 44.6% while limiting their opponent to 35.5%. Rain or Shine somehow dominated the other stats by having more rebounds, TO points, and second chance points but the TNT won the most important stat which is the score. Rain or Shine will be hard-pressed to win Game 3 which will be played on Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum at 6 in the evening.
