Cebu Challenge Cycling Classic: John Rene Mier wins Prologue

Ronda Pilipinas 2012 Best Young Rider John Rene Mier got the best time in yesterday’s 4 km. individual time trial (ITT) to be awarded the yellow jersey in the prologue event of the  Cebu Challenge Cycling Classic. The 20 year old Cebuano finished the course in four minutes and 53.98 seconds.  He was 3.61 seconds better than second running Rudy Roque of LPG American Vinyl Manila team.  Fellow Cebuano Nino Surban of Danao City grabbed third place in yesterday’s prologue held at the South Road Properties.

Here are the Top Ten riders after the ITT:

  1. John Rene Mier (Team LBC) – 4:53.98
  2. Rudy Roque (LPG American-Vinyl) – 3.61 seconds behind
  3. Nino Surban (Dolors Minimart/Dans Bike/Team Danao) – 5.34 seconds behind
  4. Irish Valenzuela (LPG American-Vinyl) – 6.67 seconds behind
  5. Rustom Lim (LPG American-Vinyl) – 8.34 seconds behind
  6. Mark Bonzo (Team LBC) – 9.21 seconds behind
  7. Arnel Quirimit (Pangasinan) – 11.34 behind
  8. Marvin Tapic (Cebu Province) – 11.80 behind
  9. Ramon Espinosa (Dolors Minimart/Dans Bike/Team Danao) – 13.21 behind
  10. Raemon Lapza (Cycle Line Extreme Butuan) – 16.31 behind

Stage 1 will be from Cebu Provincial Captiol Grounds to Bogo City.  The first stage has a distance of 101.7 kilometers. From Bogo the bikers will head to Toledo for Stage 2 then to go to Argao at the end of Stage 3.  The final 60 km. criterium will finish at the CICC on August 12.
