caloycomment: Boxing is alive in Cebu.  The more promotions, the merrier.  It is a good thing to see many promoters helping the quest in finding the next Manny Pacquiao. The major networks are also helping in giving our current crop of future world champions a venue to showcase their ring savvy and potential. If you have nothing to do tomorrow night, go watch some BOXING. :)

Former world boxing champion Gerry “Fearless” Penalosa is now shifting his focus to promoting up and coming fighters in the region.  He now heads the Gerrypens Promotions, Inc. that promotes a bout fight card dubbed as “Dugong Kampeon II” in the New Cebu Coliseum this Saturday, June 25.

The main event will feature his nephew the undefeated Dodie Boy Peñalosa, Jr. (4 wins 0 loss 4 wins by KO)  who will face Jeffrey Jimenez (5-8-2, 3KOs) of Casablanca Gym in an 8 rounder. The young Penalosa is being coached by his dad Dodie, Sr. who is also an ex-world champion. Dodie, Jr. quit a promising amateur career (27-0-0 10 KOs) to pursue a professional career where generations of Penalosas gained fame and fortune.  So far, he has KOed all his opponents with 3 fights stopped before the end of the first round.  He is one of the bright prospects of Philippine boxing.

The event will be shown in GMA QTV11 on July 3 at 10 am.
caloycomment: I still remember the first time I saw a live boxing bout, it was way back in 1989 when the ALA boys were still in there 4th of 5th bouts.  I saw Gerry Penalosa, Andy Tabanas and ALA Villamor made new fans at the New Cebu Coliseum. It was like 22 years ago and I can still vividly remember how they impressed a 13 year old kid like me.  They were dubbed as future world champions.  Well, they all became world contenders but only Gerry Penalosa ended up with a world championship belt. Fast forward. Now we are going to see the next generation of boxing talents and hopefully many of them will bring honor and pride to all Pinoy fight fans. Please support the promotions if you can. Good luck and keep on punching!
