As part of its hospital week, the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) hosted a run dubbed as “Hero’s Run: Takbong Kalusugan, Kapatiran, at Kabayanihan” yesterday morning. Over 1,000 runners joined the event and it was heavily supported by the VSMMC employees. There were 3 distances to choose from: 3K, 5k, or 10k.
Since my father-in-law
works at VSMMC, the whole family again joined the run. Auntie Rony, Shaun, and Lenmar were also there because Charles is also a nurse at Sotto. We woke up around 4 am and we arrived at Ayala Terraces at around 5 am.
The event started with a cool warm-up led by Cacay of Fitness First
Cebu. The 3k run followed the same route as last week’s POGS run
except that the turning point is located near DOST Banilad. We finished our “run” in around 40 mins which was slower than last week since we spent more time talking pictures
and talking with Lenmar.
When we arrived to the finish line, the snacks were lugaw
and pan de sal
. After all runners finished, the cool-down was led by Emily of Fitness First Cebu. The participants enjoyed dancing to the beat of some retro-hits and the recent J.Lo single. The awarding ceremonies were then held after the cool down.
It is amazing to know that competitive running can give you some new “toys” or weapons. I am not talking about your abs or your ripped body. I can’t believe that you can actually win a gun if you win a race. Y101 and Armscor is sponsoring a fun run on July 24, 2011 that will give expensive pistols to the winners of their 10.1k event with Military Obstacle Course. Oh well, you got crawl, climb and maybe even do push-ups but nevertheless the winner will be given an Armscor 1911A1 Classic 9mm pistol (men’s category) or a pink colored Tanfoglio Italy-made 22 caliber pistol (womens).
Well, if you want to register you may go to RUNNR Ayala or Y101 Studio in Gaisano Country Mall. You only need 300 pesos to join.
If you want to win a gun, invest in a good pair of running shoes and start jogging. You only got 10 days before the big race.
I wanted to lose weight and I guess running is the “cheapest” exercise. I decided to invite some friends and join some fun runs.
First fun run: Glamour Run by STC Batch 87

Categories: 1.5K Glam Category – where participants dress up and have make up stations in lieu of water stations.
Entrance Fee: 250

It was our first run in years and we were just practically jogging and walking in our 3k. It was fun though and we wanted to do it more often. After the run, we had a BIG breakfast in Pancake House Ayala.
