Mutya ng Pilipinas 2012: Cebu City’s Rizzini Alexis Gomez takes home Mutya ng Pilipinas Tourism title

21 year old Cebuana Rizzini Alexis Gomez was crowned Mutya ng Pilipinas Tourism in the coronation of the 2012 Mutya ng Pilipinas which was aired by GMA 7. The Mutya ng Pilipinas 2012 Asia-Pacific International title was given to Camille Guevarra  of Pampanga.

Guevarra and Gomez will be representing the Philippines in separate international pageants. The 19 year old Gomez will be going to Spain this December for the 2012 Miss Intercontinental beauty contest.  Gomez will be flying to Malaysia for the Miss Tourism International tilt to be held on New Year‘s Eve.

The other winners in last weekend’s grand coronation night held at the UP Theater in Diliman, Quezon City were Mutya ng Pilipinas Overseas Communities Maribee Tiburcio, 1st runner-up Emma Tiglao of Central Luzon, and 2nd runner-up Lara Grace Lacap of Quezon City.

Aside from bagging the Tourism crown, Rizzini Alexis Gomez was awarded best in swimsuit.  After failing to qualify in the 2012 Bb. Pilipinas and failing to win in the Miss World Philippines, the pretty Cebuana will finally be coming home with a crown in her head. Congratulations to all the winners and participants!!!

22nd Fiba Asia U18 Championship: Cebuanos Pingoy, Porter reinforce Energen U-18 team

National Under-18 coach Olsen Racela added two new players to the line-up that swept the Southeast Asian Basketball (SEABA) Under-18 tournament for the 22nd Fiba Asia U18 Championship in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia  which will start on Friday.  The two new players are Cebuanos.  Kris Porter who now plays for the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles used to play for the Sacred Heart School- Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles before moving to Manila to finish his high school career playing for the Blue Eaglets of ADMU. The second player added is the reigning UAAP Juniors MVP Jerie Pingoy who starred for the UC Baby Webmasters before being recruited by the Far Eastern University.  The two are expected to play vital roles in the country’s quest for supremacy in Asian youth basketball.  Porter will be relied on defend the post and secure rebounds while Pingoy’s job is to create scoring opportunities for his teammates and himself. On Friday, the Energen U-18 team will slug it out with Saudi Arabia.

August 2012 P.T. Licensure Examination: SWU and Velez students in the Top 10

Cebu schools have once again proven their ability to produce high quality graduates as two students from Cebu made it to the top ten of the August 2012 Physical Therapist Licensure Examinations. Gian Carlo Delante of the Southwestern University (SWU) placed 2nd among 884 examinees. He got a rating of 84.25 just .30 less than the ratings of the number one passers from the Pamantasang Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM). Stephanie Anne Tan of Velez College placed 5th with a rating of 83.95.  PLM had 7 alums in the Top 10.   Only 469 passed among the takers for a 53% national passing rate.
