Several national officials were with the President like Department of Trade and Industry Secretary Mar Roxas, Sen. Franklin Drilon,  Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo, Energy Secretary Rene Almendras (brother of Vice Governor Magpale) and Budget Secretary Butch Abad.  Also present to grave the event were Rep. Tomas Osmeña (Cebu City, south district), Rep. Luigi Quisumbing (sixth district), Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes, Consolacion Mayor Teresa Alegado, Pinamungajan Mayor Geraldine Yapha, Tuburan Mayor Democrito Diamante, Barili Mayor Marianito Mariñas, Bogo City Mayor Celestino “Junie” Martinez Jr. and Sta. Fe Mayor Jennifer Illustrisimo.  All the mayors of the 5th district were there except for Liloan Mayor Duke Frasco, and Danao City Mayor Ramon “Boy” Durano Jr. Some politicians identified with Governor Gwendolyn Garcia’s One Cebu Party were also there like PB Thaddeo Ouano, Santander Vice Mayor Wilson Wenceslao and Samboan Mayor Raymond Calderon.

The Bakud Party has been close allies of Governor Gwen Garcia during the past three elections where they helped the governor get elected in 2004, 2007, and 2010. Governor Garcia has allied herself with UNA party of Vice-President Jejomar Binay and she is planning to run for a senate seat in the 2013 elections.

Former Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagle Julius Cadavis scored 11 to be among the four Arellano Chiefs players who scored in double figures in their upset victory over the Collegio de San Juan de Letran Knights, 77-67. The victory was the first win for Arellano in four tries this season.  The Koy Banal-mentored squad is out of the cellar with a 1-3 record.

The Chiefs waxed hot early in the game as they lead in double figures most of the first half which ended 39-28.  The game was very physical resulting to ejections to two Letran players. Knight’s team captain Jam Cortes was ejected in the second quarter after throwing an elbow in a rebound play. Jonathan Belorio followed him to the showers after committing his second flagrant foul with 5 minutes left in the 3rd period. The loss of the two players made it difficult for coach Joel Banal to find the right combination to rally from the large deficit.

In the 4th quarter, the Knights launched a last ditch rally to cut Arellano’s lead down to two at 64-66.  The Chiefs responded with an 11-0 run behind Fil-Canadian James Forrester and Rocky Acidre to pull away.  Forrester top scored for the Chiefs with 18. Kevin Alas had 22 points for the Knights who suffered their second straight loss after an opening win over San Sebastian.

Arellano (77) — Forrester 18, Bangga 13, Cadavis 11, Pinto 10, Acidre 9, Zulueta 7, Caperal 5, Salcedo 2, Valera 2, Hernandez 0.
