Beijing, China – Perennial favorites Philippines were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the 2012 World Pool Team Championships after losing to Japan via shootout. The team composed of Efren Reyes, Francisco Bustamante, Dennis Orcollo, and Cebuana Rubilen Amit were actually down 3-1 before rallying to tie the game to 3-3. The team of Yukio Akagariyama, Toru Kuribayashi, Naoyuki Oi and Chihiro Kawahara , however, were steadier in the shootout by winning it to 6-4 to land a place in the semifinals were they play China-2 composed of Dang Jinhu, Dai Yong, Han Haoxiang, Liu Shasha, and Chen Siming.
The 5th-8th placing of the Philippines earned them $12,000. The other semifinal match-up will feature Great Britain and Chinese-Taipei.
