Donnie Nietes (30-1-3 16KOs) wins via unanimous decision over Felipe Salguero (16-3-1 11KOs) to retain his WBO light flyweight belt.

The judges were unanimous in giving the pride of Bacolod City a win over the gritty Mexican challenger.  The WBO light flyweight champ hit timely punches to stunt the aggressive and durable Salguero. Two judges scored 116-112 for Nietes while the third one at 115-113. Nietes is on a 17-bout winning run dating back 2005. Nietes likewise ended Felipe Salguero’s 13 match winning streak.

Milan Melindo (27-0-0 11KOs) knocks out Jesus Geles (13-3-1 5KOs) for the WBO International flyweight belt.

Melindo never gave the taller and heavier Geles a chance as he sent the Colombian to the canvass three times in the first round for the KO win. The official time was 2:21 of the opening round. Melindo is now undefeated in 27 career bouts.  He upgraded his Inter-Continental belt to an International belt. It will not be for long that the Cebu-based El Metodico will figure in a world title bout.

Genesis Servania (18-0-0 6KOs)  TKOs Genaro Garcia (38-9-0 22KOs) in the 12th round for the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) International Silver super bantamweight title

20 year old Genesis “Azucal” Servania gave the 34 year old Mexico’s Genaro “Poblanito” Garcia a sweet remembrance of the Mexican’s visit to Manila by knocking out the challenger in the 12th round. Garcia who was boasting of emerging victorious prior to last night’s bout gave the young Filipino fighter a difficult time and was even leading in the scorecard of one of the judges before he fell to the canvass twice in the final round. With the win, the Cebu-based Bacolod City native Servania retained his undefeated professional record. Azucal also grabbed his first ever title.

Arthur Villanueva (19-0-0 12KOs) earns a split decision win over Jeffrey Cerna (12-5-0 5KOs)

Arthur “El Matador” Villanueva kept his immaculate record after surviving a bloody fight against southpaw Jeffrey Cerna. Judges Samson Libres and Gil Co gave him the bout while Judge Greg Ortega scored it for Cerna.

Arjan Canillas (7-0-1 5KOs) had a majority decision win over Warren Manbuanag (2-2-1 1KO)

Toledo City’s Canillas remained undefeated as he eked out a majority decision over Mandaluyong’s Warren Manbuanag.  Greg Ortega scored it 57-56 for Canillas. Raul Mandin saw it 58-55 also for Canillas while Romeo Yulo thought it was a draw.

Ralph Jhon Lulu (5-0-1 3KOs) fashioned a unanimous decision victory over Boyce Sultan (6-2-0 4KOs)

Lulu capitalized early as he knocked down Sultan in the first round to win his 5th bout in 6 professional fights. Sultan suffered his second straight defeat after starting his career with a string of 6 victories.

Juren Labordo (4-0-0 1KO) shut out Fel Morales (0-3-0)

In a battle between of an undefeated prospect and a winless fighter, the favorite won all rounds for the expected victory. The judges gave Labordo all four rounds to keep his perfect record intact.

Eljohn Evangelista (2-1-0) beats Takaoki Noma (0-2-0)

The opening bout of the fight of Pinoy Pride 14 fight card was won by Filipino Eljohn Evangelista via unanimous decision.  Evangelista and Japanese fighter Noma traded knock downs in the first round in the action-packed opening bout.

2012 Ronda Pilipinas Stage 8: Surban places 3rd but 3 teammates are out of Ronda

2 Jun

It was a bittersweet day for the Y101FM/Cebu cycling team in stage 8 of the 2012 Ronda Pilipinas. The stage was 209 km long and it started in Daet City and ended in Lucena City. It was indeed a very tough stage as 8 riders failed  to reach the allowable time limit and one rider even failed to finish the race.  Among the 9 cyclists who are out of the running, are Y101FM/Cebu’s Robert Villaber, Jaybop Pagnanawon, and Marvin Tapic. With 3 of its 5 remaining riders out, Cebu now has only 2 riders left for this year’s Ronda Pilipinas.

Without the minimum 3 riders, Cebu is automatically relegated to last place in the team classification.  The two remaining cyclists are youngster Elmer Navarro and SEA Games medallist Nino Surban. The silver lining for team Cebu in Stage 8 was the 3rd place finish of Surban in the toughest stage so far in the tour.  Surban was able to beat the likes of Merculio Ramos, top sprinter Cris Joven, and 12 others for a place in the podium. Surban finished 1:36 behind stage winner Sherwin Diamsay of One Tarlac and just 10 seconds behind King of the Mountain leader Irish Valenzuela.

Surban won the bronze medal in last year’s Southeast Asian Games in cycling’s cross-country event.  He has shown that he can compete with the best in the country especially in climbing. Currently, he is in 40th place in the over-all classification while Elmer Navarro is 59th among the 77 competing riders left. Both will probably have a hard time in the next few stages as they are only two in the team. Team Cebu will most definitely try to team up with other teams and act as spoilers or surprises in the coming stages.

Thanks, Google!

Well, I have been blogging for fun for quiet sometime. When I was starting using blogger, I was a curios about the monetize feature of the site. I just clicked it and read that blogs can actually make money through google ads. Yeah right, was the first statement that popped to my head.  When I read the details, it said I make a few cents every time somebody clicks an ad in one my blogs. I can only “withdraw” the money once it reaches $100. I was like saying I could probably have that after 10 years of blogging with the rate I was going.
I realized I was off by 8 years. Hehehe. When I checked my adsense account that I have reached the minimum amount, I was still skeptical about receiving money from Google.  I read the notification about the money sent and I immediately to the nearest Western Union outlet in my place. I was given $100. I real 100 bucks as in Benjamin Franklin.
You can really make money through blogging via Google Ads.  It is not easy but I was even expecting this to happen. If you have a lot of spare time and a free internet connection, why not start blogging…NOW! ;)
Hopefully, I will be able to try WordAds in WordPress soon to see the difference.
