News: CITOM will not allow Mandaue jeepneys to enter Manalili
Summary: The CITOM will strictly implement City Ordinance 1837 which limits the Mandaue jeepney routes to SM Terminal, White Gold terminal, and Ayala terminal. Some Mandaue jeepneys continue to go to to the city via MJ Cuenco to Manalili after a crack on 21 B jeeps going to Osmeña Boulevard in the past year. This time, CITOM will not allow the other Mandaue City jeeps to go to the city.
What does this mean? Well, commuters from Mandaue who have to go to Cebu City will have to disembark in either SM or White Gold and ride another jeep and pay again. There will be an increase in their transportation expenses for sure. For Mandaue drivers, there will be a loss of income as their normal route is cut short.
Side Story: Some quarters think that this move by Cebu City is a retaliation of Mandaue’s move to ban garbage trucks from passing in their city.
The growing tensions between the two neighboring cities has affected residents of both Mandaue and Cebu City. Some commentators are suggesting that politics has something to do with it. Maybe in 2013, the relationship will be much better.
