Araneta Coliseum– Cebuanos Jerick Cañada and Jan Colina played their last collegiate game for Adamson University after the FEU Tamaraws won the do or die game, 78-74, earlier today. It was a bitter pill to swallow for the Falcons who were the No.2 seed in the Final 4 and had a twice to beat edge against the Tams.
The game was close all-throughout. In the 4th quarter, the Tamaraws were threatening to pull away with a 70-59 lead after Season 73 MVP Ryan Garcia made an amazing shot. Adamson seems to have no answer for the FEU juggernaut. Jerick Cañada responded to display one of the best 4 minutes of his 5-year UAAP career. The former Don Bosco Greywolves standout scored ten points in an amazing 12-4 run in which Adamson cut down FEU’s lead to 3 at 71-74. In that spurt, he made several steals and scored 2 triples. Unfortunately, it was not enough as FEU held on for a 78-74 win and grabbed the right to face Greg Slaughter’s Ateneo Blue Eagles in the finals.
Jerick Cañada finished the game with 14 rebounds, 3 rebounds, 2 dishes, and 4 steals. It was clearly his best performance of the season and probably in his UAAP career. Jan Colina formerly of the University of Cebu had 8 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steal, and a blocked shot in his final UAAP game. In 5 years with the Falcons, they bagged 3rd place twice (2010 and 2011). Teammates Lester Alvarez and Janus Lozada will also graduate along the two Cebuanos.
It was tough to see them lose but the blog would to congratulate them for having a good UAAP career with the Falcons. Way to go Jerick and Jan!!!
