Last week, we were wowed by the performance of the Philippine Dragon boat team in Tampa, Florida because they won 5 golds in the World Championships. The Dancesport Team Cebu City (DTCC) has shown it has also what it takes to excel in a foreign land. A 10-couple team was sent by the Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC) to conquer the ballrooms of Unites States. CCSC Chairman Edward Hayco also happens to be a co-founder of the DTCC.
They came, they saw, they danced, and indeed, they conquered. DTCC won 33 gold medals and 12 silvers in the Empire State Dancesport Competition held at the Crowne Plaza in New York. The team was led by the pairing of ANSELMO Estillore and Mae Lozada, and the junior pairing of Samson Orlanes and Jessa Mae Briones.
They followed their feat with another 33 gold rush in the Nevada Star Ball Dancesport championship at the Green Valley Ranch Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada. The events were participated by over 6,000 dancers from different parts of the world.
Since its inception in 1999, DTCC has trained countless of dancers from the different barangays of Cebu City and the dancers have garnered over 700 Golds in various competitions.
Here are some of my pics of the dancesport athletes in a competition held last year in Cebu City:
